Egypt accelerates preparations for global climate summit

With international and local meetings, the Egyptian Government on Monday continues the preparations for the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), which will take place in the seaside resort of Sharm El-Sheikh in November.

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is attending in Berlin the Petersberg Climate Dialogue, which began on Monday under the joint leadership of Egypt and Germany.

Presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said in a communique that the meeting paves the way for COP27.

Prior to the Climate Dialogue, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met in Berlin on Sunday with United Nations Acting Executive Secretary on Climate Change Ibrahim Thiaw.

In Berlin, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli chaired a meeting on Sunday to follow up on the preparations for the UN COP27.

Environment Minister Yasmin Fouad and Foreign Ministry’s general coordinator for Organizational and Financial Aspects of COP27 Ashraf Ibrahim attended the meeting.

Egypt launched its National Climate Change Strategy 2050 in May with the aim of addressing the impacts of that scourge.
