Request to dismiss Ecuador’s Parliament vice-president on discussion

Ecuador’s National Assembly (Parliament) is assessing on Thursday a proposal to dismiss its second vice president Yeseña Guamani, for alleged breach of her duties.

The plenary session’s debate will be based on a report drawn up by an Ad Hoc Multiparty Commission that urges the removal of the lawmaker, who took office after Bella Jimenez dismissed for corruption.

Guamani is accused for submitting to the Legislative Administration Council a motion to suspend the analysis of the Bill Repealing the Economic Development Law to consult to the Constitutional Court the limits of the Parliament in that area.

The process was promoted by Assembly woman Jhajaira Urresta, a member of the Union for Hope alliance.

On May 31, the plenary session dismissed Parliament President Guadalupe Llori, also for non-compliance with her duties.

According to surveys, most of the population disapproves of the Parliament’s management.
