One million 777 thousand 187 Guatemalans were affected by the rainy season, reported the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred).
The most recent update reported 24 deaths, four missing and 3,426 left homeless due to causes ranging from landslides on several highways to severe flooding.
According to Conred, most of the victims are from the departments of Alta Verapaz (eight) and Escuintla (five).
There are also 7,086 people at risk, 874 in shelters and a total of 911 incidents had assistance throughout the national territory.
The National Institute of Seismology, Meteorology, Volcanology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) warned on Monday that the precipitations will return during the week due to the passage of the east wave number 11, which will favor cloudy with drizzles and electrical storms.
The institution warned about the possibility of lahars in the volcanic chain, sudden flooding of rivers, floods, mass movements or damage to the country’s road network, which so far has been evidenced with the destruction of four roads and 24 bridges.
In addition, 239 highways, 47 bridges, 130 schools and 10 buildings were affected, while 3,208 homes have received moderate to light damage.
