“This is born because of its fight against poverty, inequality, climate change and, therefore, in favor of peace,” he explained.
The prominent human rights defender, Argentine Adolfo Pérez Esquivel announced today that he proposed to the former president and indigenous leader Evo Morales for the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize.
In a statement, where the letter sent to the Norwegian Nobel Committee is attached, the 1980 Nobel Peace Prize also states that Morales managed to implement successful programs to combat poverty, inequality, climate change and, therefore, in favor of peace
‘Our dear sister Bolivia, the most impoverished in South America, in 2019 was declared by the United Nations High Human Development country for the first time in its history. It was no accident. Since 2006, the first indigenous president in the history of America led a plurinational, revolutionary and non-violent process, which marked a before and after, ’he recalled.
Pérez Esquivel points out that he received the Nobel Prize for the fight against Latin American dictatorships, articulated among themselves by Operation Condor that was running the United States.
‘As in the case of Lula (Da Silva), the first labor president of America, whom I nominated in 2019, Evo is also a symbol of resistance against the new Operation Condor that today performs military, media and judicial coups, to outlaw political parties and candidates who achieve high voting intention because they implement sovereign policies in favor of the people, ‘he said.
Also the head of the organization Peace and Justice Service (Serpaj) warns that today democracy is at risk in the region.
We cannot be silent, we cannot allow the Bolivian civil-military dictatorship with its racial hatred, nor the coup action of the OAS (Organization of American States) in the hands of Luis Almagro, said the social activist who demanded for Bolivia ‘free elections and transparent and the end of Evo’s forced exile, ”he stressed.
In the letter sent to the Norwegian Committee, Pérez Esquivel recalls that 14 years ago, Bolivia was the poorest country in South America, the most unequal, with a very low life expectancy and dependent on international cooperation even to pay doctors’ salaries and teachers and how now – after the management of Evo -, it grew to double its neighbors.
He highlighted several of the achievements of the ex-president’s government – victim of a coup d’etat last November – including how Bolivia has the lowest unemployment rate in the region, was declared a territory free of illiteracy by Unesco and created a system of public health, establishing a system of universal access to health.
These structural changes affect the interests of elites who do not want things to change. Over 14 years, these elites tried to overthrow the legitimate and legal government of Evo Morales on several occasions and this was consumed on November 10, 2019, expressed in his letter.
These are the reasons that impel me to present this candidacy. I am convinced that the Nobel Peace Prize for Evo Morales Ayma will be a fair recognition and an incentive to the struggle for inclusion, for the eradication of poverty and for sustainable development, he concludes.
