Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Thursday reiterated his government’s decision of zero impunity regarding the criminal violence that shakes the country.
The president ratified his government’s order at the morning press conference at the National Palace, dedicated as he does every Thursday to the issue of social security, one of the major problems facing the administration even though there has been notable progress in confronting it.
Undersecretary of Security Ricardo Mejia Berdeja presented the report “Zero Impunity” with which he illustrated that there is no crime without punishment, justice always arrives.”
He highlighted the arrests of “El Tony” in Queretaro, two alleged cases of feminicides and an alleged extortionist, among other members of criminal groups.
Regarding the deaths of eight people in a confrontation in the Cruz Azul Cooperative, in Tula, the undersecretary of Security reported that 10 detainees are already under criminal proceedings.
Mejia Berdeja clarified that nine journalists have been murdered so far this year and not 11, and regarding the last reporters killed, Yesenia Mollinedo and Sheila Garcia, in Veracruz, he mentioned that the presumed masterminds have already been identified and their arrests are expected soon.
He also talked about journalist Luis Enrique Ramirez, in Sinaloa, who suffered from cranioencephalic traumatism and had gunshot wounds in his left leg.
He made it clear that the journalist had not joined the mechanism for the protection of journalists and no line of investigation has been ruled out, but there is no element that leads to presume that this homicide is linked to his journalistic activity.
