Petro proposes to consolidate peace if he wins elections in Colombia

Peace in Colombia is one of the transversal axes of the Government program proposed by Historical Pact candidate Gustavo Petro on Monday, if he wins the May 29 presidential elections.

“From the first day of my Government, the protocols that the Government of (Juan Manuel) Santos signed with the guarantor States of peace will be recognized,” Petro, favorite to win the upcoming elections, said this Sunday.

On his Twitter account, he assured that, if he becomes the President of this South American nation, he will initiate the comprehensive peace process with all actors of violence and propose a great pact of society for coexistence.

According to the programmatic platform of the Historical Pact coalition, in a possible mandate of Petro and Francia Marquez, as vice-president, violence against peace signatories will cease and they will implement what has been agreed in its entirety, with support of the whole society and the international community.

“Particularly, the agreement on integrated rural reform will be a main pillar of our proposal for the democratization of land”, states Petro’s program, called Change for Life.

Petro also considers necessary to reach a peace agreement with the National Liberation Army, for which he will establish the conditions to advance in an effective talk and negotiation within the framework of the generation of broad national consensus and the support of the international community, taking into account the lessons learned from the Final Peace Agreement with the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.
