Iranian spokesman confirms continuity of nuclear talks

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh on Monday confirmed the continuity, with no pause, of the talks in Vienna to revive the nuclear deal.

In his weekly press briefing, Khatibzadeh gave details of the future visit to Tehran of European Union (EU)’s Iran nuclear talks coordinator Enrique Mora, who will meet with Iran’s top nuclear negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani.

“If the United States decides this same day to return to what it has taken from the pockets of Iranians, an agreement can be reached after Mora’s visit,” Khatibzadeh said.

Mora, who is also an assistant secretary of Foreign Policy at the EU, will arrive in here on Tuesday for a meeting about the nuclear issue with Bagheri Kani on Wednesday.

The visit is in line with the efforts to reduce the remaining differences between Iran and the United States to pave the way so that Washington can rejoin the 2015 nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Talks to resume the JCPOA in the Austrian capital have been held since April 2021 between Iran and the group 4+1 (comprised of the United Kingdom, France, Russia and China, plus Germany).
