Putin: Russia could not resolve situation in Ukraine peacefully

Russia tried to resolve the situation in Ukraine peacefully, but they did not let it, Russian President Vladimir Putin explained to the father of one of the fighters of this country who died in Donbass.

“If there had been an opportunity to solve this problem by other means, peaceful ones, of course, we would have taken it. But we were not given such an opportunity, we simply were not given it,” the Russian leader was quoted as saying by the TASS news agency.

The head of State noted that Russian soldiers “are fighting bravely, heroically and professionally” and assured that “all planned plans are being implemented. The result will be achieved, there is no doubt about it.”

Speaking on Monday in Red Square for Victory Day, Putin noted that the country launched its military operation in Ukraine to preemptively repel an aggression, something he said was a forced, timely and the only correct decision. During the ceremony for the 77th anniversary of the triumph over fascism, he recalled that before the start of the war deployment in that country, an “absolutely unacceptable” threat to Russia was created.

“There were open preparations for another punitive operation (in Donbass), for an invasion of our historical lands, including Crimea. Kiev announced the possible acquisition of nuclear weapons, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) bloc began active military development of neighboring territories,” he warned.
