Armed groups in Haiti seize six fuel trucks

Armed groups seized six fuel trucks that had just finished refueling at the Varreux terminal, north of this capital, the local press revealed on Wednesday.

The fuel trucks belonged to several oil companies and the claims of the gangs are unknown for the moment, according to a Le Nouvelliste report.

The seizure of the fuel trucks comes when the country has been facing a new fuel crisis for several weeks, which has kept many gas stations closed in Port-au-Prince and in departmental cities.

On Monday, the Bureau of Monetization of Development Aid Programs confirmed that a shipment of 287,000 barrels of gasoline and diesel arrived in the country over the weekend, to supply local markets.

The hijacking of fuel trucks that are distributing oil is not new in the country, which is immersed in a deep insecurity crisis, with the proliferation of armed gangs and their control of strategic zones.
