Inflation in France continued its upward trend in April, although at a lower rate than in previous months, after registering an inter-annual variation of 4,8%, an official source reported.
In a preliminary report, the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee) specified that the increase in prices was more moderate in April, due to a lower increase in the cost of energy, which nevertheless grew by 26,6% in a year, after soaring by 29,2 in March. Inflation had advanced 3,6% in February and 4,5% in March, amid a deteriorating economic outlook due to the conflict in Ukraine.
Food, services and manufactured goods prices accelerated particularly in April, with increases of 3,8, 2,9 and 2,7%, respectively.
March brought an inflation rate unheard of in France since the mid-1980s, a pace which, although it eased in April, is still a cause for concern, a concern shared by other European Union countries.
This week, the Insee published that the morale of French households fell two points this month to stand at 88, a level unprecedented since 2018.
