Pichincha Prefecture asks the Government to pay the USD 14.6 million debt for the execution of works

The resources represent 15% of the budget of the Provincial Council.

The debt maintained by the Ecuadorian Government with the Pichincha Prefecture is USD 14.6 million. The Plenary Session of the Provincial Council approved a resolution requesting payment of these resources.

The measure was adopted after the representatives of the cantons and rural parishes, as well as the prefect Paola Pabón, expressed the need to have that amount for “the execution of works and projects for the benefit of the Pichinchanos and Pichinchanas”.

The delegations indicated that these USD 14 million are part of 15% of the budget of the Provincial Council and therefore are resources that belong to the citizens.

They said they support the position of the province’s authority, not because it is a whim, but because it is a right.

In addition, the Plenary of the Provincial Council unanimously resolved that the prefect Pabón take the necessary administrative, legal and judicial measures to demand the payment of the outstanding values.

In December 2019, the Government announced that it will pay USD 1 million to each prefecture that it owes, in two installments. The first payment (of 50%) was planned for the same year and the remaining 50% for the first quarter of this 2020.

However, the Ministry of Finance indicated – at that time – that the payment of the remaining securities with the provincial governments will be delivered with disbursements from the Development Bank of Ecuador.
