The hourly employment law´s repeal in Honduras gives back the right to thousands of workers and is an important victory for the people, analyst Alejandro Bonilla said.
Speaking to Prensa Latina, Bonilla referred to the repeal of the regulation, which has a positive impact on the economy of the most needy, and added that some 700,000 workers were affected by the law since its implementation in January 2014.
Referring to the rights that will now be returned to the people, Bonilla, who is also a member of the Libertad y Refundación (Libre) Party pointed out the so-called benefits, which -he said- are an important agreement for the worker, as it allows, for example, to set up a small business or buy a home or a vehicle.
“They will also have rights to double the minimum wage in the months of June and December, in addition, workers will be able to receive their vacation bonus; meanwhile, pregnant women will be able to opt for their rest,” the analyst highlighted.
In this sense, he added that those who were hired under the hourly employment law, at the moment of the repeal will be permanent workers, therefore, they will not have to think if in a week or a month they are going to be fired.
The bill to repeal the hourly employment law was presented to the National Congress by the Libre deputy Juan Barahona.
