The Federation of University Students of Ecuador (FEUE) announced that it will join the mobilizations called by the National Union of Educators, for April 28, 2022.
In an event in Guayaquil, together with other university unions, the president of the student organization, Mauricio Chiluisa, specified that these actions are due, among other things, to the fact that the National Assembly has not processed the project of reforms to the Organic Law of Higher Education (LOES), presented nine months ago.
Likewise, they demand that the National Government guarantee the budget to the country’s universities and higher education institutions. In addition, they urged President Guillermo Lasso to guarantee free access to higher education.
“The Government has not guaranteed free access to higher education. The budget cut has affected university autonomy and the expansion of the academic offer,” said the leader.
For next Thursday, April 28, the UNE called for a mobilization due to the objection of the Executive, to the reforms to the Organic Law of Intercultural Education.
