Three provinces of Ecuador woke up with closed roads, due to the paralysis of the banana sector that demands attention from the National Government, due to the low prices of this product, this Monday, April 11, 2022.
In Guayas, Los Ríos and El Oro, the banana producers stationed themselves on the main roads of these provinces to close the vehicular path with debris and boxes of this fruit, in rejection of the neglect of the executive
For example, in El Oro, the producers blocked the Machala-El Guabo road with stone material, despite the strong police control in the area.
In Guayas, farmers closed the road in the Puerto Inca sector. Likewise, the El Triunfo – Guayas road was taken.
Segundo Solano, representative of the National Federation of Banana Growers, claimed that the Government has not complied with the banana sector or with the agricultural sector in general.
To face this problem, Solano demanded that the Government buy the clusters from small producers or deliver supplies for the fumigations; because the cost for this procedure is the highest.
He also explained that, currently, a box of bananas is valued at over USD 5, which represents a loss, since the producer receives between two or three dollars per box.
