Prison Crisis in Ecuador: Authorities Find Two People Deprived of Liberty in the Quevedo Prison

In addition to the 20 people murdered in the Turi Prison, two more inmates were found dead in the Quevedo Prison.

Two inmates were found hanged around 3:30 p.m., this Sunday, April 3, 2022, in pavilion G of this center.

The hanged prisoners were identified as Jilmar Coque Gavilánez and Gregorio Flores Salazar. Preliminarily, it is known that the two people would have been detained five days ago and were waiting for the trial hearing.

According to information from Darwin Guevara, chief in charge of the Quevedo-Mocache District, those deprived of liberty were arrested for illegal possession of weapons and were under preventive detention.

Likewise, the official specified that the pertinent investigations are being carried out to determine if the inmates were hanged or if it was a suicide.
