Yemeni Gov’t and UN discuss on how to promote peace process

Yemeni Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed and UN Special Envoy Hans Grunberg discussed on a proposal by the international organization to promote the peace process, an official source announced on Friday.

During a meeting in Riyadh, capital of Saudi Arabia, the two officials also addressed the humanitarian crisis in the country, after almost eight years of war, Saba news agency stated.

Grundberg reported on the ongoing efforts to try to reach a comprehensive political settlement.

For his part, Abdulmalik Saeed reiterated the Government’s full support for the UN envoy’s work to de-escalate the conflict and pave the way to revive the peace process, the source stressed.

The official accused the Houthi militia of rejecting the talks while its military offensives continue.

According to the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, two-thirds of the population, some 20 million people, need humanitarian assistance and 80 percent live below the poverty line.
