In 2024, the electrical interconnection project with Peru is expected.

Through international interconnection, Ecuador sold about USD 70 million in energy to Colombia during 2019.

For this year, with financing from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the design of the electrical interconnection project with Peru would be completed, which would be implemented in late 2023 or early 2024, according to Gonzalo Uquillas, Vice Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, within the framework of the presentation of the guidelines for the development of the Ecuadorian electricity sector.

The official said – in addition – that they are working, in coordination with the IDB, in the regulation of the Energy Efficiency Law.

The Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) authorized a loan for USD 200 million for the electrification of the shrimp sector, said Uquillas.

He also mentioned that there are nine public selection projects, including wind (wind), photovoltaic (sunlight), hydroelectric (hydropower), and thermoelectric (temperature to voltage), which the Government has pending, for an amount of USD investment 6930 million.
