Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the international community must actively cooperate with the new authorities of Afghanistan, in addition to promoting their official recognition by the United Nations and its various agencies.
In a meeting this Thursday with his interim counterpart from the Taliban government, Amir Khan Muttaqi, Peskov stressed the need for the Executive to be inclusive, not only at the ethnic-confessional level, but also in the participation of other political forces.
During the meeting held with the Kabul representative during the third ministerial conference of Afghanistan’s neighbors (Russia, China, Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan), in the Chinese city of Tunxi, Lavrov highlighted humanitarian assistance as another priority that the international community must assume.
During the meeting, the Russian Foreign Minister stressed that Western countries are responsible for the current situation of the economy of Afghanistan, therefore they must assume the main financial burden to overcome the crisis and stabilize the situation in the country, the TASS news agency reported.
Peskov also indicated that the White House is trying to free itself from responsibility for the fate of Afghan citizens and refugees, including those who served the US forces and are now “stuck” in alleged transit countries on the way to United States.
He also described as cynical and humiliating the order of US president Joe Biden to freeze seven billion dollars of assets of the Central Bank of Afghanistan to compensate the relatives of the victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001.
According to Peskov, the sincerity of US intentions to help stabilize the situation in Afghanistan is highly questionable.
