Russia highlights Turkey’s position in negotiations with Ukraine

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Tuesday noted that Turkey did not join the anti-Russia campaign launched by the West and adopted a balanced stance, which allowed for negotiations with Ukraine in its territory.

She explained at a briefing that due to Ankara’s balanced stance, Russia approved the meeting and accepted its offering to help in the negotiations with the Ukrainian party, referring to the meeting between the Russian and Ukrainian delegation in Istanbul on Tuesday.

Zakharova noted that, amid the pressure from the punitive measures against Russia, Turkey adopted a more independent stance than other countries.

When commenting the remark of United States President Joe Biden about his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, Zakharova said that Moscow tried to build equitable relations with Washington, even amid the periods of more discrepancies, so if he continues this way, he will be accountable for the deterioration of ties with Russia.

During his visit to Warsaw on March 26, Biden said that Putin must not remain in power.

A US State Department spokesperson said on Monday that Biden’s comment was out of emotion and did not reflect the official policy of the White House.
