A delegation from the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac surveyed a 30,000-square-meter plot of land located in Pifo, northeast of the Ecuadorian capital, where the vaccine factory could be built.
The Deputy Minister of Comprehensive Care of the Ministry of Health, Miguel Moreira, led the tour.
Last February, within the framework of the presidential agenda that was maintained in China, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) proposed that cooperation be carried out aimed at strengthening the biological production capacities in the country.
The Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, and her work team, together with representatives of the pharmaceutical company, agreed on a roadmap on the actions to be taken within this cooperation process.
Sinovac even presented a tentative calendar of scheduled activities until 2032 and approved the realization of the project in Ecuador with the execution of economic, technical and scientific validation studies to determine where the plant will be; what technology has to be transferred and the functional legal mechanism with which it will work.
The agreement aims to generate a comprehensive project that includes not only the vaccine plant and the acquisition of doses, but also the conduct of clinical trials in the country, the strengthening and technical, scientific and technological transfer; and the process of training and transmission of knowledge.
