El Salvador breaks silence on Ukrainian conflict

(Prensa Latina) El Salvador´s government broke its silence regarding the war conflict beween Russia and Ukraine, with an alert about its consequences in Central America.

Without taking sides, Vice-President Félix Ulloa mentioned the matter during his participation in the Central American Integration System (SICA, in Spanish) Summit and the Caribbean Community (Caricom, in Spanish), recently held in Belize.

“The conflict occuring between Russia and Ukraine is going to have consecuences that are going to force us to review this Action Plan”, Ulloa said referring to new region projects.

President´s envoy to the meeting Nayib Bukele assured that SICA and Caricom members should be prepared to make adjustments and update their plans in view of the current circumstances.

Ulloa ratified the calling of peace in El Salvador, a country teared apart by a civil war from 1980 to 1992, and recognized the UN role in efforts to overcome conflicts peacefully. “We are convinced that multilateralism is what can maintain balance and peace among nations, but we want to remember that each State is free of making its own decisions”, he stressed.
