The Foreign Ministry confirmed that there was an over-demand for the first humanitarian flight to bring back Ecuadorians who left Ukraine due to the war with Russia.
In Budapest, Hungary, a group of 94 Ecuadorians boarded the flight that was in Warsaw, where it would pick up another group to complete the 350 passengers. However, there are reports that the flight left with empty seats and several Ecuadorians were unable to board.
Some hoped to return to Ecuador, after a risky journey to leave Ukraine. Now, many are at the airport waiting for instructions from the Government.
They will have to remain in Poland until the details of the second humanitarian flight announced by Ecuador are confirmed. The Foreign Ministry will cover the accommodation expenses of those who did not board the first humanitarian flight.
Foreign Minister Juan Carlos Holguín has not yet reported on the number of passengers on the plane nor has he referred to the Ecuadorians who have stayed at the Warsaw Airport.
