(Prensa Latina) The transmission and distribution of the international news agency Sputnik and its radio service have been banned on Internet websites, radio broadcasts and social media in Spain, France, Germany and Greece as of Thursday.
This Russian media outlet reported that the decision to suspend its contents was approved by European Union (EU) authorities, which ordered to cancel all licenses and contracts of organizations in the EU bloc for the distribution of Sputnik’s signal and content.
In addition, since the beginning of March, Sputnik apps have been unavailable for download in the App Store outside Russia.
In their farewell speech to their audience, Sputnik’s editorial teams stressed they were forced to make this decision by the European authorities, who tried with all their power to eliminate a point of view different from their own for many years.
Sputnik’s editorial staff in Spain, France, Germany and Greece also thanked all the journalists and experts who have worked with them over the years.
On Wednesday, in an interview with the Colombian radio station W, Spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, denounced the persecution and blocking of Russian media in the world.
In response to a question about freedom of expression in Russia, Zakharova asked the journalist if he knew how many Russian websites, radio stations and TV channels were closed in Europe and the United States and considered foreign agents.
She also spoke about the number of Russian reporters who cannot enter EU countries, nor attend events because they are just trying to do their job.
