(Prensa Latina) Spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, Major General Igor Konashenkov, on Thursday said that Western mercenaries arrested in Ukraine will be prosecuted and have to serve time in prison for criminal responsibility.
He urged citizens of foreign countries who plan to go to fight for the nationalist regime in Kiev to think twice before the trip and reported that about 200 mercenaries from Croatia joined a Ukrainian nationalist battalion.
On Thursday, the Russian Ministry of Defense summoned the military attaché of the Croatian embassy in Moscow and briefed him on the arrival of Croatian mercenaries in Ukraine through Poland.
Konashenkov said the military diplomat was briefed about the illegal actions of Croatian citizen Denis Seler, who took part in attacks in southeastern Ukraine in 2015 and is now organizing detachments of Croatian mercenaries to be sent to Ukraine. For his part, the head of Russia’s National Defense Control Center, Colonel General Mikhail Mizintsev, warned in a press statement that Priazovsky State Technical University in the city of Mariupol was mined by Ukrainian nationalists.
He said that 60 people on their way to the humanitarian corridor were kidnapped in Mariupol and forcibly transported to the local School 34, where they also planted explosives.
He added that these terrorists are using civilians as a human shield, blackmailing the advance formations of the Donetsk People’s Republic with the threat to blow up the school with the hostages.
