(Prensa Latina) The World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday said there are significant gaps in infection prevention and control in health centers of low- and middle-income countries.
According to WHO, it´s a global issue, but it happens to a greater degree in impoverished nations.
“The availability of resources, leadership and organizational support are key elements to further improve infection prevention and control.”
In this way it will be possible to reach quality care and safe care for all people, WHO reported.
WHO-conducted survey showed that only 16.8% of health centers accomplished all minimum requirements for infection prevention and control protocol.
Infectious diseases are those caused by pathogenic microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi, and can be transmitted, directly or indirectly, from one person to another, or by zoonoses (transmitted from animals to man).
These diseases cause more than a quarter of deaths globally. HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, diarrhea, malaria, measles and pneumonia account for 90% of these deaths.
