(Prensa Latina) Deputies of the Nicaraguan National Assembly will analyze in the coming days a decree for the cancellation of the legal personality of six non-governmental organizations, in violation of the country’s laws, the legislative body reported today.
The list of entities indicated includes the María Elena Cuadra Women’s Movement, PEN International-Nicaragua, the Nicaraguan Association for Human Rights, the Center for the Promotion of Youth and Children, and the Ibero-American Foundation for Cultures.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, the measure, also applied to the Blanca Araúz Foundation for the Promotion of Women and Children, responds to the absence of financial reports from these institutions, according to fiscal periods and detailed breakdowns.
Added to this, the boards of directors are headless and lack reports of previous donations from abroad, issues that hinder control and surveillance by the Department of Non-Profit Civil Associations for the regulation of organizations of this type.
Once the decree of annulment is approved by the Parliament of the Central American nation, the Ministry of the Interior will proceed to implement what has been agreed with respect to each of the six associations, within a period of no more than 72 hours.
Subsequently, the legal representatives must deliver the law books, stamps and other requested documents and in relation to the assets, if their destination is not previously determined before possible liquidation, they will become state property, in accordance with the provisions of the law.
