The President of Ecuador, Lenín Moreno, and the President of the United States, Donald Trump, concluded their meeting with 5 agreements, during their meeting in Washington DC. Juan Sebastián Roldán, Cabinet secretary, said the meeting was successful.
The first agreement refers to employment. Ecuador will be part of “América Crece”, the US investment initiative promoted by the Trump administration.
On the issue of security, the minister said 500 Ecuadorian police will be formed next year in the United States. Special cooperations on cybersecurity issues will also be created.
In addition, about 200 American teachers will arrive in Ecuador to teach English to 9,000 teachers in the public education system. The number is expected to increase every year.
Regarding foreign trade, Roldán explained that, in April, a group of US experts will visit Ecuador to review products that might have tariff preferences. In addition, President Trump announced his interest in reaching a trade agreement with Ecuador.
This February 13, the agreements agreed between the presidents will be approved. A trade agreement, for example, must be discussed. Today they will hold meetings with several senators in charge of international relations.
