Russia, UK to discuss security in Moscow

(Prensa Latina) The Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, welcomed in this capital his British counterpart, Liz Truss, a meeting in which European security issues were the priority.

According to the spokeswoman of the local Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, the parties reviewed the current state and prospects of bilateral relations and exchanged views on current issues of the international and regional agenda.

She pointed out that the analysis of long-term legal security guarantees demanded by Moscow from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the US were among the central topics.

Truss arrived in Moscow yesterday, but before her departure for Moscow the British Foreign Ministry announced that the main interest of her visit was to talk with her Russian counterpart a diplomatic solution to the crisis regarding Ukraine.

Speaking to the press in London, the British Foreign Secretary said that the Kremlin should have no doubt that her government’s response to an alleged invasion of Ukraine would be strong.

The UK diplomatic mission in Moscow assured that this Friday a meeting will be held between Secretary of Defense, Ben Wallace and the Russian Ministry of Defense Sergey Shoigu in Moscow.

On Wednesday, the Russian ambassador in London, Andrei Kelin, urged the high representatives of the British Executive to avoid threats with coercive measures against his country.
