Mélenchon brands U.S. as major threat to world peace

(Prensa Latina) French presidential candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon on Tuesday considered the United States as main threat to world peace, due to its race to keep its economic dominance and 700 military bases worldwide.

Washington allotted nearly $730 billion to military issues in 2020, uses outrageous privilege of its currency as the first world currency to relaunch its economy at the expense of the rest of the countries and also imposes its will based on extraterritorial sanctions, Mr. Mélenchon warned.

In his campaign proposal to French people on peace matters, the presidential candidate defended France as an independent, sovereign and non-aligned nation, against the threat represented by the United States policy of looking for enemies, particularly China and Russia. Ahead of the April 10 presidential elections, Mr. Mélenchon launched his new project component “The future in common”, which covers social, economic and domestic, and foreign policy issues.

According to the initiative, the candidate would distance himself from current government´s stance, which he defined as a realignment of the Western family and the US leadership.

His proposal is to put France at the service of peace, with principles that would range from solidarity to nature protection and rejection of wars.

Likewise, he advances the vision of emancipating Paris from NATO, which he considers as a tool for the benefit of Washington’s interests, and of reinforcing UN´s role.
