(Prensa Latina) The direction of Honduras’ parliament adopted an agreement which concludes the parliamentary political crisis and ratifies deputy Luis Redondo, elected on January 23, as president of the parliament.
The agreement includes, therefore, the decline of Jorge Cálix, one of the dissident legislators expelled from the ranks of the Partido Libertad y Refundación (Libre) now in power and at the head of one of the boards of directors of the hemicycle.
Although Cálix accepted his resignation as the highest figure in Congress, he still considers this position should correspond to Libre, a parliamentary majority before the separation of 18 deputies from that left-wing organization, and announced his adherence to the pact agreed with designated Salvador Nasralla.
For his part, former President Manuel Zelaya affirmed that, after 12 years of conflict and political division, which began with the coup d’état against him on June 28, 2009, a new period of tolerance, openness and dialogue has arrived, led by current president, Xiomara Castro.
The contract recognizes the authorization issued during the Party Assembly, held on June 28, 2021, for the signing of political alliances, endorsed by Castro, deserving the electoral victory of November 27, and the bench of 50 deputies.
According to the document, “the legislative crisis can only be resolved with the unity of Libre for the project of national refoundation” and the privilege of the interests of the country and the Republic, over any personal claim, however genuine it may be.
