(Prensa Latina) The Ministry of Education assured that compensation for damage caused so far by the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) in northern Ethiopia needs time, efforts and a lot of capital.
According to the cabinet, in addition to the collaboration among regional states, national institutions and international cooperation, rebuilding damage caused by the Front requires more than 100 billion birr (about two billion dollars).
Along with the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and Technology at the House of People’s Representatives (Parliament), the education authority assessed the impact of the organization’s criminality on the teaching facilities and the teaching-learning process.
Recently, Education Minister Berhanu Nega announced that “the conflict unleashed by the TPLF has seriously affected the access to schools of more than three million students” in the areas it invaded since June.
More than 1,200 schools were completely destroyed due to the war and the conflicts occurred in several areas, while three universities in Amhara state were totally or partially damaged by the aggression of the Tigrayan forces, Nega said.
