Brazilian public employees protest for salary readjustment

(Prensa Latina) Brazilian public employees demonstrated on Wednesday in protest for salaries and against a Proposed Reform to the Constitution (PEC) that will affect the sector.

Leaders from the rally demanded an immediate reinstatement of 19.99 percent of the salary for all categories of public servants and the freezing of the Executive Branch Reform.

The mobilization in front of the Ministry of Economy was called after the head of that Ministry, Paulo Guedes, affirmed that the salary readjustment of servers during the pandemic does not make “the slightest sense”.

“After several years with the salary frozen, we only have until April, because of the electoral year, to get economic relief,” the Confederation of Federal Public Service Workers declared.

The protest was organized by unions that are pressuring legislators to vote against the PEC, which also modifies the direct and indirect public management of the Powers of the Union, states and other entities.
