Doctors in Brazil suffer violence due to excess of Covid-19 patients

(Prensa Latina) The overload in Brazil of Covid-19 cases causes aggressions against the health staff and the loss of doctors and nurses after contracting the disease, a local newspaper reported.

The colapse of the country´s healthcare centers, which on Tuesday registered 25,454,000 patients, causes these violent reactions, Folha de S. Paulo newspaper added.

According to the source, physical aggressions on doctors and nurses are due to the exhaustion and dissatisfaction with the lack of resources in the face of the growing increase in the number of patients, especially due to the new Omicrom variant.

Complaints come from all over the country and mainly affect doctors and nurses in primary health care and emergency services, the newspaper reports.

A recent survey by the Regional Nursing Council of San Paulo found that the 40,9% of the professionals report verbal aggrestions and another 9,5% have already been victims of violent actions.

The publication describes the case of a nurse at a health center in Florianopolis, who was punched during a fight among patients when doctors interrumpted care to help another.
