In Ecuador, the schedule for returning to schools is maintained despite the rebound in coronavirus infections

Despite the rebound in Covid-19 infections nationwide and despite the increase in Omicron cases -68 so far- face-to-face classes are maintained in the country and the return schedule to educational institutions will not be modified.

This was confirmed by the Minister of Education, María Brown, on the afternoon of this Monday, January 03, 2022, at a press conference in which she explained that the education sector will continue to work in person, since it is an essential activity.

Brown explained that the biosafety protocol will be maintained in educational establishments, as well as the Educational Continuity Plan (PICE).

Likewise, the Secretary of State pointed out that until January 10, all schools must present the approved PICE, so that all educational courses return to face-to-face classes.

In the case of institutions that do not have the minimum spaces required to respect the distance or the required capacity, Brown said, two working groups will be established with attendance for three hours a day, in two face-to-face sessions.

“The return with 100% capacity continues for February 7, for all institutions, with the start of the second semester of the Sierra-Amazon regime and on May 3 with the start of the new year of the Costa Galapagos regime,” she specified.

Covid-19 cases in the education system
The Minister of Education assured that, despite the 42 infections of Covid-19 in the educational system, no community infections have been registered in the establishments.

Meanwhile, three infants are occupying pediatric beds due to virus infections.
