(Prensa Latina) Israeli planes bombed today an area near Damascus as part of its air campaign against Syria, whose authorities called the attack illegal and contrary to international law.
Several newspapers such as The Times of Israel and Haaretz highlighted that this was the first attack by this nation’s Air Force (IAF) against its neighbor so far this year.
In 2021, Israel launched dozens of illegal punitive bombings against Syrian targets, causing numerous deaths and injuries, as well as significant material damage, although none were acknowledged by Tel Aviv, according to its usual policy on the subject.
Last December alone, the IAF dropped bombs twice on the port of Latakia, located on the Mediterranean coast some 334 kilometers from Damascus.
A few weeks ago, a high-ranking Israeli security official admitted to The Jerusalem Post that the IAF has bombed dozens of alleged targets of the Lebanese Hezbollah group in Syria over the past three years.
On several occasions, Damascus authorities denounced before the UN Security Council the Israeli incursions, pointing out that they violate treaties, international conventions and national sovereignty.
