This Tuesday, January 25, Transparency International published its report with the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) worldwide, in which it classifies 180 countries, according to the levels of corruption that are perceived in the public sector, based on 13 expert evaluations and surveys of business executives.
In this report, Ecuador is located as one of the nations with the highest corruption in Latin America. The country fell to position 105 out of 180 countries and obtained a total of 36 points. The CPI uses a scale between 0 (very corrupt) and 100 (very clean).
In 2020, Ecuador was in position 92 out of 180 countries, but in 2021 it was ranked 105, that is, it dropped thirteen positions. This position refers to the fact that the one in position 1 is more transparent and the one in position 180 is more corrupt.
With these indicators, Ecuador remains below the world and regional average.
The Citizenship and Development Foundation, which is accredited in the country as the national contact for Transparency International, published these results and its director, Mauricio Alarcón, indicated that citizens must reject impunity and not normalize corruption.

In America, the “most transparent” countries were Canada, Uruguay, Chile and the United States. The “most corrupt”, Venezuela, Haiti and Nicaragua.
