These doses will arrive in the country in the coming weeks.
Early this Wednesday, January 26, the Hungarian Foreign Minister, Péter Szijjártó, announced that his country will donate 150,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca to Ecuador.
The Minister pointed out that this donation is part of a binational cooperation process and he hopes that with this, Ecuador can accelerate its vaccination campaign and better resist the challenges of the pandemic.
Szijjártó also stressed that there is global interest in speeding up vaccination around the world, since low immunization causes mutations and thus new variants of the virus appear, which could quickly reach Europe.
Until yesterday, the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, stated that in Ecuador 87% of the population is already immunized with one dose; 82% with two doses and 14% with a booster dose. These figures would place Ecuador with the highest indicators in Latin America.
For its part, Hungary has 10 million doses of vaccines in stock, but its vaccination process has slowed down and only 63% have been immunized with two doses.
