The creator of the anthem of lovers: “I love you I love you” said goodbye after a centenary of great achievements.
The sensitive poet and musician, who gave Ecuador around 400 works including poems and songs, was born in the province of Tungurahua, in the city of Baños de Agua Santa, on July 25, 1919.
“Canción del alma, Adiós guambrita, Solo, Mi dolor, Los culpables, Besos, Otro cielo, Mendigo, Amor sublime, Grito del Alma”, among other works sounded in the voices of the great representatives of Ecuador, giving life to rhythms such as the Pasacalle , the Hall, Albazo, Typical Air, among others.
However, the singer-songwriter would reach the hearts of all Ecuadorians with his aisle “Te Quiero Te Quiero”, performed by Ecuadorian Segundo Rosero.
The history of Ecuadorian music, full of coincidences and adventures, put the talent of the great composer in Segundo Rosero’s way, who unwittingly gave his career a new impetus, when in the mid-1980s, he was about to to leave music, since he had dedicated himself to being a trailer driver.
It was at that time, that after hearing that a singing festival would be held in the city of Baños, the singer-songwriter set out on his path and met his destiny.
Nicolas Fiallos would be that destiny, because with the romantic and popular song “Te Quiero Te Quiero”, he would help forge the career of this musician; one great for another great.
The song quickly achieved enormous popularity and soon the theme that the composer created for his wife, Evelina Guevara, with whom he had been married since he was 21, became another anthem in the national repertoire.
Julio Jaramillo, El Dúo Benítez Valencia, Las Hermanas Mendoza Suasti, Gerardo Morán, Paulina Tamayo, El Trío Colonial, among other giants of music, were also those who embraced his lyrics and made them their own, sharing their talent and feelings in every corner of the country and wherever Ecuadorians went.
After a long centenary full of achievements, awards and honors and having shared his talent with millions of Ecuadorians, the generations that survive him today mourn his departure; Santos Nicolás Fiallos Medrano, this is how he says goodbye, surrounded by the love of his relatives after dying of natural death.
His body will be veiled in the theater that bears his name, located in the city of Baños de Agua Santa, however, due to the pandemic, the capacity has been restricted and his funeral will be on Thursday, January 20, in the Municipal cemetery.
Peace in the grave of his teacher, thanks for the music he has left us, we will always remember him when listening to him through his lyrics
