The Quito Emergency Operations Center (COE) held a virtual meeting to review the health situation in the capital and to declare the red alert threshold in the city, due to the sustained increase in COVID infections.
This measure will be in force from January 18 to 25 and will be reviewed or ratified after the epidemiological report of the Ministry of Health is known.
Education
For municipal campuses, the Metropolitan COE proposes that these establishments remain in virtual mode until the end of the semester, in order to promote the vaccination of teaching staff and students.
Public transport
The buses will be able to circulate with a capacity of 50% in peak hours (06:00 – 09:30 and 16:00 – 21:00) and 75% in off-peak hours.
In the same way, they must reinforce compliance with cross ventilation, vaccination card control and permanent cleaning of the units.
Job
The Ministry of Labor is advised to reduce face-to-face sessions, due to the high concentration of public entities in Quito.
Permitted capacity
Shopping centers, including food courts, supermarkets and markets can operate with 50% capacity.
Banking and corporate agencies can work with 50% capacity.
Restaurants inside can operate with 50% and outside with 60% capacity.
Operation of bars, discos and tolerance centers is suspended.
Cinemas and theaters with a maximum capacity of 30%
Gyms that do not practice physical contact sports 50% capacity.
According to COE data, from the penultimate week of December to the first week of January 2022, there was a 187% increase in COVID infections. In the first days of this year alone, 5,836 cases were registered.
In addition, there has been evidence of a significant increase in cases in children and adolescents between 10 and 19 years of age. From less than 1 case per 100,000 inhabitants registered at the end of November and beginning of December, the figure increased to 9.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, in the first week of 2022.
