Ministry of Labor of Ecuador registers 76,539 dismissals

Only in December 2021 and so far in January 2022, based on the registration made by employers that appears in the Single Labor System (SUT), the Ministry of Labor registers 76,539 legalized settlement certificates.

In the midst of an escalation of infections, several people have lost their jobs for various reasons.

For others, their working hours were reduced and, with this, the remuneration they receive each month is also reduced.

Employers, to date, in the Single Work System -SUT, have registered 15,506 contracts with a reduction in the current working day.

Although this change has been registered in the contracts, workers have claimed that the employers did not reduce, in effect, their working hours, and have had to extend their working time. In the hardest moments of the pandemic, the working day was also reduced for teachers, who also raised their voices of rejection because, in effect, their working time was never reduced, but their salary was.

The latest provisions of the National Emergency Operations Committee (COE) have been focused on reducing capacity and, on the labor issue, returning to virtuality due to the increase in infections.

To date, the Single Work System -SUT has 446,429 registered teleworkers.

Regarding the sub-registration of the labor force in the IESS, the Ministry does not have this information, but it reported that there are 90,189 cases of workers in evasion and under-declaration, 4,255 companies were inspected and 3,626 complaints from affiliates who informed the IESS were attended. for cases of evasion and underreporting.
