(Prensa Latina) Pope Francis decided to send an initial donation of 100,000 euros to the victims of Typhoon Rai in the Philippines, the Holy See reported on Tuesday.
In a statement, the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development said that amount of money will be sent to the local church and allocated to assist the most affected dioceses.
This donation, together with prayer and the support of the beloved Philippine people, is part of the aid that is being activated throughout the Catholic Church, with the involvement of a number of charity organizations in addition to several episcopal conferences, he said.
The statement noted that the pope also decided to send another 100,000 euros to support groups of migrants stranded between Poland and Belarus and help the Polish Caritas to face the emergency on the border between both countries, due to the conflict that has lasted for over 10 years.
