From February 29, 2020 to January 11, 2022, 578,525 cases of coronavirus have been registered in the country (285,564 women and 292,961 men).
The Ministry of Health reported that updated information was attached to the infographic for Tuesday, January 11, with the underreporting detected on infections and deaths.
The process of identifying underreporting began in May 2021 and is part of the improvement of surveillance and data management systems.
In the first half of 2021, 1,183 cases were detected and in the second they were 652. On the other hand, the number of deaths in the first half of 2021 increased by 309 records and in the second quarter, 73. Finally, in the first week of 2022 there was an increase of 3,038 cases and 16 additional deaths.
All these data are already part of the infographics that the State Portfolio presents since yesterday and in them an increase in positive diagnoses and deaths as a result of Covid-19 is observed.
As of January 11, 1,522,963 have been ruled out and there are 120,761 probable cases of contagion. Meanwhile, nationwide there are 34,122 deaths.
Taking into account that the cases of underreporting were attached, from January 9 to 11 the number of infections increased. For example, as of January 9, a total of 567,332 cases of coronavirus were reported nationwide and as of January 11, 578,525, which means that 11,193 cases were added to the database in that period.
According to the entity, as of January 11, the percentage of occupancy of the beds in the hospitalization area of the health houses that are under its supervision is 46%. While the intensive care areas (ICU) are at 74%.
In the case of IESS, Armed Forces and National Police hospitals, the percentage of occupancy in the hospitalization area is 63% and 82% of ICUs.
The health houses of the complementary public network, on the other hand, have 40% occupancy of their beds and 49% of the ICUs.
Contagions at the provincial level have also increased, Pichincha ranks first, reporting a total of 208,982 cases since the start of the pandemic. Guayas follows with 89,106 and Manabí with 39,611.
As for the cantons, Quito presented a total of 193,338 cases, Guayaquil 63,589 and Portoviejo 12,836.
