(Prensa Latina) UN Secretary-General (UNSG) António Guterres strongly condemned the violence targeting protesters in Sudan, a nation that is currently experiencing a new political and social instability chapter.
As reported on Tuesday by the UNSG spokesman Stéphane Dujarric, the Sudanese security forces must exercise the utmost restraint and fulfill their obligations to respect people’s rights.
Mr. Guterres took note of the resignation of Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and regretted that no political understanding has been reached, despite the country´s serious situation, he said.
UNSG also encouraged all parties involved in the conflict to go on engaging in talks so as to reach an inclusive, peaceful and lasting solution.
“Sudanese aspirations for a transition leading to a democratic regime are pivotal,” Mr. Guterres stated.
According to local media, clashes between military forces and protesters continued around the Presidential Palace in Khartoum. Those rioting are calling for the establishment of a civilian government and the military to stop, according to local press.
