(Prensa Latina) The first three cases in Mexico with the Omicron strain of the SARS-Cov2 coronavirus, which causes Covid-19, and the additional 20 ones reported are under control, the undersecretary of Health Prevention claimed on Tuesday.
At President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s morning press conference, Undersecretary Hugo Lopez-Gatell complained about the fact that the required information has not been completed and reminded public and private centers of their duty to immediately report detected mutations.
He ratified that only 23 cases have been detected so far (other media outlets are reporting 25); these cases have been located, and complete studies have been conducted.
These 23 people have mild symptoms. None of them has been hospitalized, only the first case, who did not infect anyone and no longer has symptoms. He said that 70 percent of the 23 infected people had not been vaccinated, which shows that immunization is the main action to do.
He urged unvaccinated people to get vaccinated and those who have been immunized to receive the booster shot. He said that the national vaccination program is making progress, and Mexico is one of most immunized countries in the world.
He said that 716 Covid-19 cases and 58 deaths from the pandemic were reported in the past 24 hours.
Therefore, he added, 3,934,102 Covid-19 cases and 297,916 deaths have been reported since the outbreak of this health crisis. Some 15,420 cases were reported on Monday.
