Ethiopia is working to reduce stunted growth

Addis Ababa, Dec 12 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopia is increasing its efforts to reduce stunting among children under five years of age, one of the problems that are currently affecting children’s rights and human capital development the most.

According to a recent statement by Minister of Health Lia Tadesse, this threat to integral growth, especially due to chronic malnutrition, has a high prevalence in the nation, despite measures taken to reduce it.

Our plan is to reduce this indicator to zero among the population aged 2 years or less, and go from 37 percent to 13 percent among children under five years of age by 2030 nationwide, Tadesse commented.

The main strategy to achieve this goal, which is very ambitious, is the National Food and Nutrition Strategy started in August, she said at the 2021 National Nutrition Conference, held in this capital for the past three days.

We have the obligation, she stressed, to implement this initiative in a swift and effective way, to reverse the situation and guarantee that every child grows without difficulties, has a school performance according to his or her qualities and can contribute to the collective welfare later.

She added that, even in the current global and domestic circumstances, the government keeps the commitment to working to ensure nutrition because it is vital for the rights of children and the population, progress and development.

The investment process in human capital starts by acknowledging and protecting children’s right to a proper nutrition. We must eliminate everything that disrupts children’s full growth, she reiterated.
