Mass vaccination plan seeks to achieve Covid-19 immunity in Ecuador

(Prensa Latina) The government of Ecuador on Sunday is carrying out a mass Covid-19 vaccination campaign for the second day in a row to immunize its entire population before the end of this year.

This initiative started on Saturday to vaccinate those who had not been immunized and administer a booster shot across the country.

According to the government, the idea is to immunize 85 percent of the population.

The plan, called “Vacunaton”, includes centers set up to administer first and second doses to people who were not vaccinated during the schedule slated by the Ministry of Public Health.

According to statistics, so far 73.46 percent of the focus population has been administered all the shots, whereas 83.78 percent has received the first dose.

At the same time, 641,250 booster shots have been administered.

Amid the campaign, some experts consider that Ecuador is being hit by the fourth Covid-19 wave.
