Students, teachers and workers protested in rejection of the budget cut for higher education in Ecuador.
Unions of teachers, students and university workers reject the reduction of budget allocations and demand that the government of Ecuador guarantee the funds destined for public education.
Organizations such as the Federation of University Students of Ecuador (FEUE); the Federation of Secondary Students (Fese); the Federation of University Servants; The National Union of Educators or the Association of Occasional University Teachers protested peacefully in Quito to denounce the cut of at least USD 925 million to the education sector.
Likewise, they rejected the allocations established for education in the 2022 Budget Proof; The same that, on November 17, was returned by the Assembly to the national government with observations regarding the budgets for education and health.
Isabel Vargas, president of the UNE, maintained that the education sector is in crisis and denounced that this cut affects the infrastructure of educational establishments, pedagogical leveling and school reintegration programs, as well as the deviculation of teachers.
For his part, Mauricio Chiluisa, president of the FEUE, explained that the cut to universities is more than USD 117 million, for which he sued the government to guarantee this budget.
