The Ministry of Health of the Municipality of Quito published its data on the epidemiological situation in the capital, in the last week. As of November 8, the occupation in hospitalization to treat coronavirus in Quito was 49%, and for beds in an intensive care unit (ICU) 74%.
In the same way, according to the death data from the Civil Registry, the excessive mortality rate that was registered in the strongest months of the pandemic in Ecuador has decreased and there is no rebound in deaths compared to the years 2017, 2018 and 2019.
For his part, Jorge Peñaherrera, manager of the Pablo Arturo Suárez hospital, since last week, in this health home the income of patients suffering from coronavirus has increased.
Peñaherrera maintains that approximately 60% of patients who are or were in the ICU have not been vaccinated and the remaining 40% have only received the first dose or are vaccinated and time has not passed for the drug to take effect, that is say, one to three months.
“We are seeing the consequences that people have not been vaccinated (…). It is not only because of the relaxation of the population, they no longer wear the mask … “, he pointed out.
