Social organizations ratify national strike in Ecuador

The Ecuadorian Confederation of Free Trade Unions (CEOLS) ratified the mobilization planned for this Tuesday, October 26, 2021, against the policies of the national government.

At a press conference offered this Monday morning, the president of CONAIE, Leonidas Iza; the president of the Popular Front, Nelson Erazo; the president of Fenocin, Gary Espinoza; and the president of the FUT, Ángel Sánchez, rejected the latest increase in the price of Extra and Diesel fuels.

Leonidas Iza called on the Government not to repress the protesters under the state of exception and together with the representatives of these organizations proposed to President Guillermo Lasso to set the price of Extra gasoline at USD 2.00 and at USD 1.50 the price of diesel.

The president of the FUT, Ángel Sánchez, warned that the first president intends to send more than one law of an urgent economic nature that, in his opinion, harms the Ecuadorian people, supported by the state of exception in force in the country.

“We are going to be vigilant and call on all workers to appear in the streets and to support this mobilization in defense of the rights of the Ecuadorian people,” he stressed.
For his part, Nelson Erazo, explained that these mobilizations will begin at 06:00 and will culminate in the afternoon and evening of this October 26. “These days will go from the rally, the sit-in, the mobilization and we do not rule out other types of high actions if the government does not back down in its inflationary policy,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, Gary Espinoza, president of Fenocin, denounced that at the last dialogue table with the Government, they were received by advisers and not by representatives of the different ministries, to discuss the targeting of fuels, for which he announced the rupture of the dialogue with the Executive.

In addition, they did not rule out extending this demonstration for more days, however, they explained, it will be the decision of the rank and file.
