Colombian Communist Party calls to dismantle criminal structures

Bogota, Oct 6 (Prensa Latina) The Communist Party of Colombia on Wednesday called on the Ivan Duque administration to comply with the Peace Agreement and immediately and swiftly dismantle crimimal structures and paramilitary groups.

It said that those illegal organizations keep on attacking leaders and the communities where they live.

The Communist Party’s call was made due to the assassination of Jaime Cuadrado, one of its members and a member of Union Patriotica (Patriotic Union), a human rights champion and a social and political activist in Usme, Bogota.

Human rights violations are still increasing in the country, and the Duque administration has not recognized this serious problem yet and has refused to take actions to curb the assassinations of leaders, massacres and displacements, it noted.

The party recalled that the assassinated leader did not hesitate to denounce acts of corruption and the criminal activity of micro-trafficking gangs in the area.

It noted that Jaime Cuadrado was not, as some media outlets reported, a victim of a quarrel, but of a plan to kill him.
